Submission of Assignments
You should always refer to the specific assignment prompt for details regarding objectives, grading criteria, and due dates.
When submitting assignments electronically, I always ask students to use the following standardized file naming system:
LastnameFirstinitial-AssignmentDetails
example: EngstromC-MemoAssignment.pdf
When communicating with me via email about assignment, put the course number and information request in the subject line.

Assignments
My courses proceed in a combination of formats, including intensive reading, lecture, class discussion, collaborative projects, and group and individual activities. I expect students to complete the assigned readings prior to each class session, as this will improve discussion and make our meetings more interesting. Because I seek a mutual learning experience, I strongly encourage questioning minds and active contribution to both lecture and discussion. Your participation is vital to the success of this course.
Assignments, in all of my courses, are assigned a category, which is weighted. Each assignment is accompanied by a prompt that explains specific assignment criteria and the grading rubric. Generally, I weight exams and presentations more than writing assignments. Here is an example distribution:

- Participation and In-Class Activities = 10%
- Exams = 40%
- Presentation = 30%

Extra Effort Work
- I encourage students to do more than the is required in the course. Activities are designed for continuing education or enhanced learning. They are not designed to give students a simple "boost" in their grade. Work and submissions will be evaluated and credit will be appropriately given. Submission of any extra effort assignments does not guarantee points.
