General Description
As described in the course catalog:
Studies in Organizational Communication. Study of communication systems and behaviors within organizations and their external environments. Considers relevance of communication to management operations, employee morale, networks, superior-subordinate relations, production, and organizational climates. Individual research into selected aspects of organizational communication. Students may repeat enrollment in the course, as the topic varies. Prerequisite: CMST 480 or consent of instructor.

This course uses scenario-based teaching and gameful learning to take go on a theoretical and methodological exploration of organizational structures, design, practices, cultures, and so on. The goal is to offer competency-based learning of tangible and useful skills outcomes. Topics vary each year of offering to allow students to take the course multiple times during their course of study.

Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students will
- have a deeper understanding of the application of theories of organizational communication;
- have a capacity to recognize communicative processes used in the foundation, maintenance, and disruption of organizations;
- have stronger academic and professional vocabularies;
- be able to identify and evaluate external environmental factors that influence organizational structure;
- able to analyze the nature and consequences of organizational messages – including their in(formal), (non)strategic, relational, instrumental, symbolic, and ideological dimensions; and,
- be able to apply communication theories and business communication strategies toward the strategic development of organizing processes or scholarship.
