General Description
As described in the course catalog:
[COM 213] is an introductory course in oral presentation that combines theory with practical application.
Wow, that's vague! Basically you're going to learn the foundations of rhetoric: Invention (creativity), arrangement (organizing your ideas), style (how to say things well), memory (how to deliver without notes and how to write content people can remember), and delivery (how to be more confident as a speaker and help others follow what you say). After each lesson in rhetoric, you're going to test what you've learned by preparing and delivering a speech.

- use the five canons of rhetoric to construct, distribute, and evaluate oral and written communication;
- understand and demonstrate the use of basic public speaking techniques;
- have reduced public speaking anxiety;
- write effective concise messages;
- proofread and copyedit written outlines;
- evaluated a book written by a professional public speaker;
- consider the value of public speaking in professional situations.
